A Level Geography

Why Study?

You should study geography because you enjoyed it throughout your time at Immanuel College. One of the biggest issues facing the planet  is climate change and this is a big focus of our studies in Year 13.

Course Content

First year of study  in year 12 in Physical geography, you will study 2 topics –Hazards and Coastal Systems. In Human geography, you will study - Changing Places. Fieldwork - you will complete a geography fieldwork investigation which will be examined.

You will sit two exams the first will be on Physical geography and the second will be on Human geography and fieldwork.

Second Year of study

In Physical geography, you will study the Water and Carbon cycle. In Human geography, you will study Global systems and global governance, Contemporary Urban environment. Fieldwork – you will complete a Geography fieldwork investigation. You will sit two exams the first will be on Physical geography and the second will be on Human geography. You will complete an internally assessed Geography fieldwork investigation which will count towards your final grade.

Progression Routes

What careers can you do with a geography degree? Cartographer, Commercial/residential surveyor, Environmental consultant, Geographical information systems officer, Planning and development surveyor, Secondary school teacher and Town planner.
